The Beacon is a large independent day prep school for boys aged 3-13. The School
occupies a 20-acre site halfway between Amersham and Chesham in
Buckinghamshire, easily accessible from London by Metropolitan Line/Chiltern
Railways and the M25.

There are over 500 boys and more than 100 staff at the school.
Teachers who work at The Beacon are passionate about excellence in teaching and
learning and offering the highest levels of pastoral care to their pupils. The teachers
have either an independent schools’ background or have moved across from the
state sector. The boys are initially taught by Class Teachers, with an increased level
of Specialist Subject Teaching as the boys progress throughout the school. Flexibility
and variety are incredibly important at The Beacon, where teaching staff work
collaboratively across sections of the School, enjoying a varied lesson and extra-
curricular portfolio. Staff are regularly involved in life outside the classroom, taking
part in sport and games afternoons, outdoor learning sessions and leading after-
school clubs and activities.  

The Beacon enjoys superb facilities and resources that support a forward-looking
educational environment, including a 220-seat theatre for performing arts, three
high-spec science labs, art and design technology suites, an indoor swimming pool
and over 15 acres of sports fields.

The School’s values include respect, achievement, integrity, wellbeing and courage
and all five values are truly embedded into Beacon life.

A proportion of boys leave The Beacon at Year 6 to go on to local grammar schools,
while many continue their educational journey at the Beacon until Year 8, as they
are prepared for their next steps in education through the independent schools
route. The Beacon frequently supports progression of its pupils to schools such as
Eton, Harrow, Rugby, Bradfield College and Merchant Taylors’.

The School prides itself on preparing all boys for life beyond The Beacon and
providing the key foundations of support and encouragement ‘to be the best they
can be.’

Seer Green is a Church of England School in Beaconsfield. It was founded in 1859 on the present site and additional land and buildings have been added over the years. In recent years extensive building programmes have given our children the benefit of bright and spacious teaching environments, including a superbly stocked library, specialist areas for Special Educational Needs and Music, and a fully networked ICT suite.
The school is set in four and half acres of land, providing a pond and gardens and a generous area for playing fields, yet leaving ample space for hard surface and grass play areas. There is also an extensive area of woodland, which is used for environmental studies. The School serves the children of the Parish of Seer Green and Jordans, from the age of four to transfer to secondary school at eleven.
At Seer Green Church of England School we value each person as an individual and celebrate each person’s success. Certificates achieved, both in school and out of school, are presented each week in assembly. Children share musical experiences and expertise with the school in assembly.
The school follows a clearly defined Assertive Discipline Policy which encourages each child to take responsibility for his or her own learning and behaviour. Children work in spacious classrooms, developing at their own pace and to their own ability, and are encouraged to have high expectations.
Excellent provision is made for children with special educational needs. They enjoy good support from our specialist SEN teacher with particular responsibility for these children, from additional classroom support and from County and other agencies where appropriate.
Seer Green Church of England School recognises the needs of more able children and work is planned to encourage personal development and high expectation. Gifted and talented children regularly have the opportunity to participate in specialist lessons.
