The Assessment Only Route

The Astra SCITT is accredited by the DfE to offer the Assessment Only route to Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).  Colleagues eligible for this route need to have experience of teaching for at least two years in at least two schools and be able to demonstrate that they meet the Teachers' Standards by the end of the 12 week assessment period.   We also require candidates to be currently employed in a school who can support them during the 12 week process.  The total cost for assessment with Astra is £2,750 and candidates also need to be located within a 50 mile radius of HP6 5HA.  All candidates will need to have a portfolio of evidence and be observed teaching before being registered, and original degree, A Level and GCSE (or equivalent) certificates will be checked by Astra.
Please make sure you understand and fulfil all of the requirements above before completing the Eligibility Checker / online candidate self evaluation form below.
Our online self-evaluation form can be found here.

Further to guidance received from the DfE on 12th September 2019, we can confirm that all candidates who wish to gain QTS on the AO route by 1st April 2020 will need to pass the existing Skills Tests in Numeracy and Literacy.  After this date, candidates will need to pass tests administered by the QTS providers.  Astra will shortly be announcing the details of the replacement tests, although would advise all candidates wishing to gain QTS before Easter 2020 to take the existing Skills Tests as soon as possible; the DfE have confirmed that the process of closing the national test centres will begin in November 2019.  More information about the Skills Tests can be found via this link.  In addition, in your QTS Assessment Only portfolio, you will be required to evidence fundamental Maths and English skills - details of the required proficiencies can be found here.
