Welcome to New Astra Partnership Trainees

Posted on: 09/09/2024

Welcome

This September, we're thrilled to welcome sixty new Astra Partnership Trainees (APTs).

Training began for our new cohort on Monday, 2 September, with two days based in placement schools, before three days of training in Amersham focusing on professionalism.

Topics have included safeguarding and teacher's legal responsibilities, with a range of highly experienced colleagues from partner schools working alongside the Astra Team in the teaching of the programme. Trainees have been asked to start thinking critically about research and evidence in teaching, as well as learning about reflective practicce and classroom observation skills. As ever, it's been hard work with much to learn, but there's been a palpble buzz too!

The first week has also been an opportunity for APTs from all kinds of different schools to get to know each other. Our graduate trainees include both those who have finished their degree this summer and career switchers, sometimes after many years in another sector.

Trainees are now settling in to their main placement schools, normally spending four days a week in school and one day a week in training. APTs will be supported by a mentor throughout.

While one cohort has just begun, we are also looking forward to starting next year's recruitment cycle, with applications for 2025 opening on 8 October. Drop us a line if you'd like to know more. We work with over sixty schools in Buckinghamshire and beyond, including Hertfordshire and Hillingdon, have recruitment hubs based in Amersham and Aylesbury, and host regular open events.
