Meet an Astra Trainee: Fran

Fran is currently a trainee on our Secondary Dance course

Tell us a little about your journey to becoming a teacher.....
I have always wanted to be a teacher!  I trained as a professional Dancer at university and pursued a career in the arts for several years before making the decision to transition into education which had been a passion of mine alongside performing.

 
Why did you select Astra as your training provider?
As an aspiring Dance teacher, it can be hard to find a training provider that offers Dance as a subject.  Astra not only offers Dance as a subject but has strong relationships with schools around Buckinghamshire with thriving performing arts departments.  I also live in Aylesbury, therefore keen to work with Astra as they are local to me. 

What have been the highlights of your training?
The highlight of my training has been the positive relationships I have built with both my placement schools and the support and guidance that has been given every step of the way,

What have been the challenges?
The main challenge has been juggling the school workload and the coursework.

Top advice for anyone considering teaching?
If you are looking to teach, pick a subject you are passionate about!
