Overview of the Astra SCITT
Astra’s status as both a SCITT and DfE accredited Teaching School Hub, Buckinghamshire ensures outstanding networking and high quality resourcing for trainees, including expertly trained and specialist staff from across our region who contribute significantly to the SCITT partnership in various roles and areas of responsibility, including Subject Leads, Tutors and Mentors.
Communication across the partnership is outstanding, both in terms of the Teaching School Hub network via half termly newsletter and the way in which the SCITT provides regular ‘pocket size’ summaries of the training programme in order for all stakeholders to understand and utilise the connections between centre and school based training provision. The huge benefit of this extended and expansive network is celebrated through our exceptional subject and phase specific training at both primary and secondary level, as well as our ability to source high quality first and second school placements for our trainees, and further placement experience and training.
Colleagues from our Astra and Buckinghamshire Leaders of Education (ABLE) network, deployed into the SCITT, are rigorously trained and quality assured through a process of comprehensive pre-course training, led by experts in the fields of leadership development, mentoring and cognitive science. Additionally, skills of our ITT mentors are further enhanced through both centre-led training and our twilight mentor certification programme, co-facilitated by Buckinghamshire New University, which is now in its 6th year.
Our Assessment Only provision provides a clear and flexible framework for colleagues with two years planning, teaching and assessment experience to gain QTS outside our core QTS training programme.
Links to our PGCE provider are strong, and this provision is seamlessly integrated into our QTS programme, benefitting all trainees.
Never complacent, we engage in annual self improvement planning, with our most recent summary action plan below:
