Meet an Astra Trainee: Bella

Bella is currently a trainee on our Drama course.

Tell us a little about your journey to becoming a teacher.....
I wanted to be a Dance and Drama teacher since I was in year 7,  as I loved my teacher. I changed my mind during sixth form and decided to go to university to work in my other passion which is writing but I quickly changed my mind and left university, excited to become a teacher.

Why did you select Astra as your training provider?
I had noticed ASTRA signs and I live in the area and it was mentioned to me by another teacher.

What have been the highlights of your training?
I have enjoyed meeting other teachers who share the same love of teaching as I do. I also have thoroughly enjoyed extracurricular and school productions at my placement school.

What have been the challenges?
The main challenges are doing the extra forms and documents alongside teaching work and planning and preparation. At first this is frustrating but then you get used to documenting everything. 

Top advice for anyone considering teaching?
It's not just about your subject. Even though you teach your subject and you have passion for that subject you need to be prepared to be involved in many different elements of school life. Make sure you are prepared for this balance.
